New Trier Green defeats Loyola at quad header

New trier hockey battled Loyola in a quad header on Nov. 19. Though Loyola beat the white, blue and girls teams, New Trier Green pulled a major win. Adorned in Christmas sweaters, Seniors celebrated their final Quad-header with an astounding victory. Hosted at Cenntennial Ice Rink in Wilmette, the final score was 5-4.

Trump wins presidency

Businessman Donald Trump won an upset presidency after winning the Electoral College Nov. 8. By winning suprise states along the Rust belt  like Wisconsin and Michigan, Trump won the presidency. Trump also won  Pennyslvania, which seemed like a guaranteed blue state going into the election.  His election was met with conflicting reactions. Many protests broke out across the country including school walk outs and planned marches in response to the outcome.

Cubs win World Series

After a 108-year wait for the World Series Championship, the Chicago Cubs finally broke the “Billy Goat Curse” on Wednesday Nov 2. The Cubs put an end to their championship drought with an 8-7, 10-inning victory over the Cleveland Indians in Game 7

The perceived “disappointment that comes with being a Cubs fan” was no longer relevant as millions of fans poured into Chicago as the city celebrated the team’s first World Series title since 1908. After hopes crushed in 1969, 1984 and 2003, and excusing the losses with curses of black cats, billy goats and Steve Bartman, the Chicago Cubs proved themselves to the city.

Fidel  Castro dies at 90 years old, Cuba mourns death

On Nov 25, Cuban revolutionary, Fidel Castro, died at 90. Following Castro’s death, Cuba declared nine days of mourning to pay tribute. As Cuba’s leader, Castro implemented communist domestic policies and initiated military and economic relations with the Soviet Union, which ultimately strained relations with the United States culminating in the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis.
