Sports wrap-up: Girls track and field

The Girls Track and Field Team also experienced great success in the May 19th state championships. Juniors Courtney Ackerman and Jessica Ackerman gave standout performances in multiple events. Courtney delivered an under five minute time that led to a second place victory in the 1,600 meter run, and Jessica finished seventh in the 800 meter, with a time of 2 minutes and 13.53 seconds.

The twins ran in the 3,200 meters. Both put in times under eleven minutes, good enough to place them among the top twelve finalists. Jessica finished in fourth place at 10 minutes and 49.31 seconds, and Courtney finished in sixth place at 10 minutes and 50.64 seconds.

“I went into the state meet with pretty high expectations. I set a personal record in the 3,200 meter race, which I was proud of. There were a lot of really good runners there. The season as a whole has been pretty good for Girl’s Track. A bunch of girls set personal records, which was awesome. Unfortunately we didn’t win conference, but besides that the season went well,” said Courtney Ackerman.

Also putting up big points for New Trier at the state meet was the 3,200 relay team composed of seniors Samantha Wade, Anna Berglund, Julie Jackson, and freshman Mimi Smith.

The New Trier Girls Track and Field team acquired a total of twenty-one points, good enough for an eleventh place finish at state. Edwardsville High School took first place, with a total of fifty-one points.
