Homecoming ends with dramatic win

Fans braved the cold on Friday night and stayed for the full game for one reason: to see the Trevians beat Evanston on Homecoming. The stands were packed, with some students denied entrance to the main bleachers, because of how crowded they were. Senior quarterback Nick Hendricks had to fill in for Junior Frank Nicholas (concussion), so the Trevians really had to step up.

After Evanston took a 6-0 lead, Hendricks connected with junior Spencer Cotten at the end of the 1st half to give the Trevians a 7-6 lead and the momentum going into the second half. With a scoreless 3rd quarter and the majority of the 4th, Evanston reclaimed the lead 9-7 after hitting a 35-yard field goal with 3:12 to go in the game. The pressure weighed on Hendricks’ shoulders as he had to lead the team to a game winning drive.

Hendricks and the Trevians were very efficient, rolling down the field. With 1:39 left in the game, Hendricks fired a 30 yard bomb to senior Devin Boehm to give the Trevians the lead and eventually the victory. After a successful two-point conversion, the Trevians went on to win the game 15-9.

After the win, the Trevians are now 5-3 overall and 3-1 in CSL play. The win not only pushed the Trevians closer to making a playoff run, but it also started off New Trier’s Homecoming weekend with a bang.
