Why East is Better Than West

For incoming sophomores, the transition from the West Campus to East Campus can be a bit unsettling.  From the abundance of stairwells (some of which don’t actually lead anywhere) to intimidating upperclassmen; the first day, let alone week, can be all sorts of confusing.  In the midst of all of this chaos, 10th graders might feel a bit of resentment towards this campus, but here are ten reasons why the East  campus is much better than West.

1. Remember that natural light from all of those windows at the freshman campus? We don’t have that here!  Barely any windows makes for a very fluorescent lighted learning environment, some people even compare it to a prison!

2. The P stairwell goes right through the middle of the school, making it easy to get to most, if not all of your classes really quickly.  A bonus is that it is never crowded.

3. The D stairwell doesn’t go to the third floor, but it goes to the third floor.  Awesome!

4. Water fountain water? It’s not cold, if that is what you anticipated.

5. With the presence of upperclassman, the East campus feels more like a high school than the West Campus, which was more of an extended eighth grade.

6. You can eat anywhere.  No longer limited to just the cafeteria, you can have your lunch in the hallways, the small caf, or even outside.  Everywhere except the library, which is the one place everyone actually wants to eat.

7. There are more clubs you can join, more classes you can take, more people to crowd the hallways and make you late for geometry class, more opportunities to forget your KW uniform, more opportunities to publicly embarrass yourself in front of your peers; ultimately, just a lot more fun!

8. Junior Theme.

9. It is never too hot. It’s also never too cold. Always bring layers, but don’t bring too many.

10. The New Trier News is here, arguably, no, definitely, the best club at New Trier.

Ultimately, while New Trier’s freshman campus has a lot to offer with it’s green outdoor spaces and natural light, but this campus is a more like a prison, with a short and sweet 3-year sentence.
