In Sports: Field Hockey wins state

The New Trier field hockey team bested powerhouse Lake Forest 2-1 in overtime reclaiming the state trophy for the first time since 2011. The Trevians finished with a final record of 21-2-1.
‘I wasn’t sure how far this team would make it, said senior attacker and captain Rachel Mirkin, “but by the end of the season we worked really well together as a team.”
After losing in the state championship to the Scouts for the past three years, the Trevians were thrilled to finally capture the state championship.
“The state game was one of the most exhilarating games I’ve ever played in” said senior defender and captain Grace Hemmer.
The Trevians lost twice to Lake Forest in the regular season, losing by only one goal in both contests. The first time New Trier and Lake Forest faced-off at Lake Forest, the game went into overtime, ending in a shootout. The next game, New Trier scored on a penalty stroke, but Lake Forest responded and the Scouts scored again, winning 2-1.
Thanks to the previous tight contests and the always rowdy Green Team, the stage was set for an incredible game.
Lake Forest junior Sheridan Weiss scored nine minutes into the first half. The Trevians responded when Junior attacker Sofia Crnkovich scored six minutes later off a pass from Senior attacker Lindsay Hackett, tying the game at one.
The game remained tied and went to overtime. With just seconds left in overtime, New Trier was deep in the Lake Forest zone.
Junior defender Rose Gorski passed the ball across the penalty box to Senior attacker Kitty Kenyon, who swept the ball into the back of the net with just fifteen seconds remaining, winning the game for the Trevs. The last few seconds were the most exciting seconds of my field hockey career” said Hemmer. ”
