Candidates battle for  head start in polls

Super Tuesday started March off with a bang on the election road. The first of March started off what came to be a tumultuous election year with surprises coming from both ends of the spectrum.

On the Republican side, Donald Trump surprised all by beating out Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, John Kasich, and Ben Carson, winning Alaska, Arkansas, Georgia, Massachusetts, Tennessee, Virginia and Vermont.

On the Democratic side of the spectrum, Hillary Clinton fiercely competed with unexpected grassroots candidate Bernie Sanders. Although Clinton won with 6 states, Sanders caught national attention by winning 4 states as a self-proclaimed socialist candidate.

Super Tuesday began the political divide in the US which became a theme throughout the election. Both the Democratic and Republican primaries spotlighted the anti-establishment sentiments that were apparent across the country on both ends of the country.
