Trump and Clinton elected as 2016 presidential nominees

To the surprise of many, on July 21st, Donald trump was officially selected as the republican nominee.

Hillary Clinton became the first women to be nominated as a presidential candidate of the United States.

Lollapalooza celebrated its 25th anniversary

On the 25th anniversary of the annual music festival in Chicago, Lollapalooza extended their three day event to four days. An estimated 400,000 people were in attendance at Grant Park, where the concert was held. The event ran from July 28-31, with almost 200 musicians performing from a variety of genres. The headliners included acts such as J Cole, Major Lazer, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Future, and Ellie Goulding. The Sunday show also featured New Trier graduates Freddy Kennett and Robby Hauldren from the EDM group Louis the Child.

Pokemon Go App Released

On July 6, the new and exciting app Pokemon Go was released. It allowed kids and adults to hunt Pokemon and find pokestops. By using a GPS and digital map, it encouraged players to go outside and get exercise. Unfortunately, it also sparked concern when unforeseen dangers arose in relation to the game. The app has since been downloaded over 500 million times.
