Top stories from the past 4 years: Farewell Dohrer, hello Hibbard

In July 2013 Denise Hibbard succeeded Tim Dohrer in becoming the Winnetka Campus Principal after Dohrer resigned.

After twenty-three years of working at New Trier, Dohrer took a job at Northwestern University as the Director of Teacher Education. His new position would allow him to oversee Northwesterns teacher certification programs and to direct the schools Master of Science in Education program. Before departing, Dohrer remarked that some of his best memories at the New Trier, besides being principal for 4 years, included being an American Studies teacher, an advisor, and helping create the Seniors Writers Seminar class.

Denise Hibbard began her tenure with New Trier in 2011 as the Northfield Campus Assistant Principal. Before working at New Trier, she was an assistant principal at a high school in San Roman, California for six years, then principal at Dougherty Valley High School, also in San Roman.

Hibbard helped the high school become the best school in its district, according to the Academic Performance Index.

With these exceptional past positions, Hibbard had an advantage when vying for the principalship of New Trier.

Following Dohrer, Hibbard continued to foster the close bonds built between the students, staff and community. She feels that it is one of the most important factors in being a successful principal in an exceptional high school.
