Boys and Girls Track and Field round-up

Both the girls and boys track and field teams walked away with outstanding individual and relay performances from the state meet. From May 22 through May 24, the girls team had two individuals who advanced into the Saturday finals in their respective events.  Junior Mimi Smith advanced in both the 1600m and the 3200m events.  Smith finished third overall with a time of 10:41.17 in the 3200m and came back less then three hours later to finish 12th in the 1600m with a time of 5:11.06.  After tying for first in her qualifying flight with a height of 10-06.00, junior pole vaulter Nicole Karabas advanced to the final and finished the state meet with a fourteenth place finish.

  From May 29 through May 31, the boys team also put on a showing in both the relay and individual events in the qualifying and the final races.  The 4×800-Meter relay team of senior Chase Silverman, sophomore Ted Oh, senior Connor Trapp, senior and Peter Cotsirilos finished third in the state with a time of 7:44.27.  Junior Josh Rosenkranz ran a time of 9:38.58 finishing twentieth in the 3200m.  The 4×400- Meter relay team of senior Dylan Gunther, Oh, Trapp, and senior Bryant Herlocker set a school record with a time of 3:21.09, but just barely missed qualifying for the final by one spot. After Cotsirilos and Silverman helped the 4×800 get 3rd, they came back later that afternoon to run in the 1600m final.  Cotsirilos finished 8th in the state with a time of 4:13.22 and Silverman was right behind him finishing 10th with a time of 4:16.36.
