Study spaces you should not sleep on!
Study hot spots

New Trier High School students know how crucial it is for everyone that there are good study spaces within the building. But what makes a “good” study space?

As seniors, we have spent the last three years searching for the best study spots. Whether you’re cramming right before a test, or preparing far in advance, we’ve got you. We’ve taken into consideration student traffic, noise, accessibility to amenities and more, for our ratings. Below are our detailed rankings of our top five study spots.

#5. The Cafeteria
#5. The Cafeteria

We all love to eat, so naturally the cafeteria must make the list. It is one of the most common student spaces at New Trier due to its open space and amenities. Here are our ratings:

  • Location: 9/10 – close to Trevian Way, underneath the student commons and library, lots of natural lighting
  • Resources: 9/10 – access to a variety of hot food, water fillers, right below library
  • Comfortability: 6/10 – Some chairs are broken or uncomfortable, shortage of seating
  • Traffic/Noise: 4/10 – noisy most of the day, sometimes quieter during non-lunch periods
  • Cleanliness: 6/10 – sometimes it’s clean, sometimes there’s leftover food: you never know

Final score: 7/10

  • Location: 9/10 – across from café, access to bathrooms, right near water filler
  • Resources: 7/10 – far from library but proximity to a food source
  • Comfortability: 8/10 – space to spread out work, straight-backed chairs, and cloth booths
  • Traffic/Noise: 7/10 – only noisy during passing periods
  • Cleanliness: 6/10 – often trash from eating and other supplies

Final score: 8/10

  • Comfortability: 8.5/10 – some cloth chairs, some regular high-top tables

#1. Silent Study Room
#1. Silent Study Room

Drumroll please…our #1 best study spot at the Winnetka Campus goes to…the silent study room! This very popular study space is located in the far southwest corner of the library. The silent study room is the ideal space for students who need to limit distractions to productively study.

  • Location: 7/10 – located in the back corner of the library; secluded and relaxing
  • Resources: 10/10 – access to printers, books, school supplies, above cafeteria
  • Comfortability: 7/10 – straight-backed chairs, not too cold and not too hot
  • Traffic/noise: 10/10 – silent! (it’s in the name)
  • Cleanliness: 10/10 – never a crumb because there’s no food allowed

Final score: 9.5/10
