Source Anonymity Policy

When possible, the New Trier News uses named sources in order to maintain credibility and accountability for the information we publish. At times, however, we must rely on anonymous sources to tell important, relevant stories. We only use anonymous sources if 1. the information is from a credible source with direct knowledge of the subject at hand; 2. it brings to light important facts that otherwise would remain in the shadows; and 3. the information can be obtained no other way. We will only grant anonymity when the source may be punished for the information they reveal, or when their safety is at stake because of the information they provide.
