Drake has released a new single titled “Slime You Out” while his fans patiently await the drop of his new album “For All the Dogs”.
The album is set to drop on Sept 22. His last non-collaborative album, “Honestly, Nevermind” was released on June 17. 2022. This was not his best album. I mean it kind of sounded like the music you’d hear if you were 12 and strolling into Abercrombie.
But, his album with 21 Savage, “Her loss,” was significantly better and had a more Drake-like feel to it. SZA and Drake working together is extremely exciting. Drake is doing a good job marketing his new album, with SZA being one of the most listened to female artists right now.
“Slime You Out” begins with Drake’s vocals on display, which aren’t always apparent in his more rap-style songs. The single follows themes of Drake critiquing how individuals can so easily use people and act childishly.
The repetition of “Slimin’ you out, im slimin you out” acts as the artist’s disapproval of adults displaying immature behaviors like excessive emotionality and pettiness in specific circumstances, as if they constantly seek attention. He says that he’ll “slime them out,” an expression alluding to using someone for personal gain.
SZA, on the other hand, experiences the situation in reverse. She perceives that her partner is exploiting her for personal benefit and as a result, she chooses to terminate the relationship. Also, when SZA sings, “And you ain’t ’bout the s—, you rappin’ about /And I can spin the h—-, I’m airin’ it out / I’m goin’ on like it’s sawed-off,” she squarely targets specific rappers who embellish their lyrics with falsehoods to project an image of authenticity and coolness, even though they have no genuine connection to the subjects they rap about.
The song follows the artist’s opinions on how people in and outside of the music industry can so easily act fake. Although I’m usually more inclined to listen to Drake’s more fast paced songs, I actually really like this one. The melody flows nicely with the words and it sounds more like Drake’s older music which I really loved.
The message behind it is very to the point and is relatable to many of his listeners. While his vocals sometimes get unnoticed, this song shows his range in talent is crystal clear. SZA’s vocals in it are outstanding and her range is amazing. This song will add great variety to Drake’s new album, and I am excited to listen to the rest of it.
