Top 5 Colleges:
Since the college process is winding down for New Trier’s 2015 seniors, many juniors are becoming curious about where to apply. There seems to be a consistent trend in the colleges and universities that seniors choose to attend. Lower classmen can take a look at the most attended colleges by New Trier grads to get an idea of where they might like to spend the next four years.
By taking a look at average size, ACT score, and overall acceptance rate its hard to tell why a college will be right for you. But with a little help (from us) you will be able to choose the right one.
1. University of Illinois, 82
Located in Urbana-Champaign, the University of Illinois is certainly a college town. With no big city nearby, students hang out mostly on campus. There are 32, 281 undergraduate students at U of I. If you’re up for a big school in a small town, with lots of New Trier graduates, you should check out University of Illinois!
2. Indiana University, 44
Indiana University at Bloomington is located about an hour and half from downtown Indianapolis, and is a relatively short drive from Winnetka. There are 46, 416 undergraduate students on campus. Last year, 44 New Trier graduates attended IU. Bloomington is a great town and a beautiful campus. Tailgating and sporting events are very popular, so if you like sports and don’t want to go too far, IU could be for you.
3. University of Michigan, 34
The third most-attended university last year was the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. 34 New Trier students enrolled in UM last year. Sports and Greek life are big at Michigan, so if either of those social activities interest you, you’ll definitely find a place in Ann Arbor. If you don’t mind bundling up like an eskimo to get class all winter, look into Michigan!
4. University of Wisconsin, 24
Located in Madison, Wisconsin, the University of Wisconsin is the main school of the UW education system. UW-M is the only school on our top-five list located in a city, albeit a smaller one. Wisconsin football, basketball, and hockey are big social attractions for students. If you’re interested in being in a city while still experiencing the college-town atmosphere, Wisconsin could be for you.
5. Miami University – Oxford, 24
Although Miami is located in the small town of Oxford, Ohio, this college town will not disappoint. Full of fun restaurants and bars (including Insomnia cookies which delivers until 3am) you will never run out of things to do. Although a little under half of the students are from Ohio, this stat shouldn’t scare you off. With 24 students attending from New Trier last year, you will not be alone.
