As the Lagniappe Potpourri performance dates draw near, many new facets of this year’s show are being brought to light. This includes the newly improved ticket selling system.
Lagniappe is almost completely run by New Trier students. The task of putting on a show is especialy challenging this year, since the performance is two weeks earlier than usual, giving students less time to prepare. “It’s been hard with the time crunch this year but everyone’s been working hard and it’s going to be an amazing show,” said senior board member Michelle Castino.
This year, senior Anna Foster is in charge of the ticketing system for Lagniappe. “The new ticketing system is a hybrid between last year’s system and New Trier’s Online Payments,” said Foster. Last year’s system was a website called Seat Yourself, which is still being used for public ticket sales. Seat Yourself is a user-friendly site that allows people to see a calendar of show dates, a layout of the theatre, and generally provides an easy ticket purchasing process.
As many New Trier students know, adviseries often attend Lagniappe together. Whether it’s for an advisory bonding experience or because of a long standing tradition, many students and their adviseries appreciate the opportunity to attend the performance together.
This year, adviseries had an advantage with the new ticketing system. Those who ordered online, via Revtrack, got priority seating and were able to easily arrange seats together.
The Online Payments system allows students to order their tickets individually from home, and it doesn’t force their adviser or another person to make the whole initial payment.
“The decision to change the ticketing system came about because of difficulties with the old system. Using the Online Payments, students can order tickets individually,” said Foster.
One of the most important issues that this fixes is the responsibility put on advisers to organize their advisery’s attendance, buy all the tickets, and collect money.
Lagniappe is shaping up to turn out well this year, and the student leaders are excited for the show to open. According to Foster, the first rehearsal for this year’s show went well enough that it was deemed the best first rehearsal ever seen by one of the staff sponsors.
“I think this compliment really lends itself to the amazing board members that put all of their efforts into making Lagniappe Potpourri what it is and what we hope it will continue to be.”
The student board members are working to make significant changes to the show. “The amount of change that students see in Lagniappe derives from the board members running the show. This year our goal as a board was to create a more cohesive Lagniappe,” said Foster.
“We wanted everyone who is involved in Lagniappe to feel that they are a part of the company, and we wanted everyone at New Trier and in its surrounding communities to connect with the show,” she said.
The goals and changes that have been made so far have turned out well, according to the Lagniappe board. It is a definite goal for the show’s organizers that the process continues to be a success.
