The implementation of ID scanning has made its return, but this year there are more scanners at each of the main entrances, solving last year’s problem of long lines in the morning.

“It’s easier to get into the school this year in comparison to last year,” said Senior Victoria Romic about scanning.

Starting on Aug. 29, students were required to scan their IDs when entering the school in the morning or any time during the day. Unlike last year though, the line to scan in the morning is no longer than two minutes.

Whereas last year, the scanning system was unsuccessful in that the lines would cause students to be late due to slow scanning lines and the lost ID check-in was much less efficient.

“There are more scanning stations, so more people can scan in [at a time]. It’s definitely more efficient [than last year],” said Mary Mercer, New Trier Security Guard.

There are now four scanning stations at the main entrances to the school in the morning compared to two last year, allowing students to move through the process quicker.

The missing ID system has also been digitized, so students no longer have to write their ID numbers on a sheet if they forgot it, they can simply punch the number into the system, making this line faster as well, according to Assistant Principal of Programs and Operations Athena Arvanitis.

Students have also said the school has made it easier to replace an ID in the attendance office. Students can now get an ID printed on the same day they request it, providing an easy solution to lost IDs.

Students have had a positive response to the newer system. After the long waits to get into the school when the system debuted last year, they have recognized a more efficient system this year.

Freshman Lilly McClain said  she appreciates its efficiency.

“I don’t think it adds or takes away from the process of getting into the school.”

Arvanitis stated that there are more people that help students scan in in the morning, which also improved the long lines from last year.
