Again, the girls lacrosse team finds themselves ending another season with a loss to the top-ranked Loyola Ramblers. The Trevians (23-3) lost 11-7 in the Illinois High School Women’s Lacrosse Association state championship, extending Loyola’s championship streak to four years.
The Ramblers won the first three draws, scoring on each, and jumped out to a 3-0 lead. The Trevians came barreling back, with junior Kelsey Murray (3 goals, 1 assist) leading the attack, and tied it at 3-3. Loyola lead 7-5 at the half and scored four unanswered goals to start the second half. Junior Katy Weeks scored New Trier’s first goal of the second half with 12:07 remaining but the Trevians could not regain possession to lead a comeback. New Trier’s final goal was scored with 2:41, leaving the deficit at four goals. The Ramblers then proceeded to run the clock out.
Head coach Pete Collins told CSL Insider, “We’re proud of their effort. They’re proud of how hard they played. We won some big games this year. It’s just tough because this is the game they know they want to get.”
