After an exciting and hard-fought season of unpredictable performances, the varsity girls soccer team was defeated in early overtime last Tuesday during their state supersectional match against Glenbrook South.
After Glenbrook South midfielder Carolyn Nash curved a corner-kick into the Trevian goal only one and a half minutes into overtime, each of the nineteen players on the 20-4-1 team walked away with dashed hopes of winning a state championship, which would have been their first since their 2006 tournament victory.
The girls team had remained the underdogs throughout most of the championship tournament, until they netted an unprecedented victory over Loyola’s undefeated Ramblers during triple-overtime in their sectional match last Friday. This was the same match that ended the team’s playoff run last year, when New Trier suffered a 0-2 loss to the Ramblers and relinquished a spot in that tournament’s supersectionals to Loyola.
For now, the team is looking forward to competing and getting another shot at state in the 2013 season.
