On Saturday September 22, one of the great coaching legends at New Trier, Craig Fairbairn, was inducted into the High School Soccer Hall of Fame. Fairbairn has been coaching boys soccer for 36 years including 32 of those years for New Trier. His resume includes over 300 wins, eight conference champions and eight sectional championships. He also has six state appearances, two third place finishes, and two state championships.
Fairbairn has been the head coach for the New Trier varsity soccer team for 21 years.
During half time of Saturday’s game at Lake Forest, athletic director Randy Oberembt made a great speech honoring Fairbairn and his accomplishments.
The Trevians beat Lake Forest 3-1, and after each goal by seniors Phillippe Boury, David Renekov and Alex Kikos, each of the players ran over to the sideline to give Fairbairn hug.
After the game, New Trier alums played a soccer game, and the afternoon was concluded with snacks and drinks.
Although Fairbairn will be leaving the Trevians after this year, there has been no doubt that he has been a phenomenal coach for nearly four decades.
