The last three years for the girls golf team seniors has gone 2nd place in state, 1st place in state, 2nd place in state, and this year continued the pattern with a 1st place finish.
On Oct. 12, the Class 2A state final was held at Hickory Point Golf Club in Decatur, Illinois.
Due to severe weather, Saturday’s planned second round was cancelled, leaving the state title decided solely on Friday’s first round. This gave the Trevians their second title in three years. New Trier shot a team 313 beating Prospect by four strokes and beating third place Sacred-Heart Griffin by nine strokes.
Led by senior captain Nerissa Denenberg’s 77, the Trevians put their finishing touch on a successful season. “It is a really good feeling to win state,” Denenberg said. “We had a great season, and the fact that we won really feels good.”
The Trevians had an outstanding round collectively. Aside from Denenberg’s 77, the Trevians next three top scores were senior Callie Nelson (78), sophomore Lois Suh (79), and junior Lexi Salberg (79).
