On Saturday Oct. 28, the girls field hockey lost their last game of the season against Glenbard West.

Two days before, the team was defeated at the semi-finals, making Saturday a consolation game. “It’s tough to lose a semi-final game, know you’re not going to the state championship, and still play your heart out in the consolation game, but we did,” said senior captain Sarah Goff.

Playing for 3rd place, they were ultimately defeated by the Glenbard West by a score of 2-1. “Glenbard’s team is very organized and has a unique style of play. Their ball control is impressive,” noted junior Faith Stineman.

Senior captain Jenn Kirby, noted that it wasn’t only the last game for the team, but also the last game ever for many of the seniors.

Kirby scored the tying goal, the last goal of her high school career. “It was an incredible way to end my time as a New Trier field hockey player.”

Goff added that Kirby’s play was a big highlight for the team. “For 25 minutes Glenbard West was cramming the ball down our defensive circle, and it was amazing when we were finally able to get the ball up the field and score.”

Despite losing the semi-final game on Thursday, the team kept their spirits up.

“Our practice the day after losing was so positive and filled with so much energy. I was proud to see our team staying positive during such a hard time,” noted Goff.

“We didn’t get the win we wanted, but we had an amazing year because of how tight we are as a team.”
