As the school year comes to an end, many New Trier High School students are left with newfound free time. Hours spent in the school halls or in noisy classrooms will now be spent with friends and family. With this break it is important to make the most of your time away from the textbooks.
For those who need more guidance, here are my top five places to visit over the summer to go with friends or family.
Elly’s Pancake House, Glenview
Elly’s Pancake House is the perfect place for breakfast or brunch. From eggs and bacon to crab cakes, Elly’s Pancake House allows customers to stick with their usual order or try something new if they are feeling adventurous. The restaurant has a homey atmosphere filled with the sweet smell of syrup and bacon which makes the restaurant a great place to grab a bite. There is a s’mores pancake, which is good for those who like dessert for breakfast.
Top Golf, Schaumburg
Top Golf is a great place to visit with family or friends. Even if you are not good at golf or have never played before, the games there are intuitive. Additionally, Top Golf provides clubs, so customers do not have to remember to bring their own. During or after a game, customers can also eat from Top Golf’s tasty menu with food options such as burgers and nachos. At Top Golf, if you are a competitive person or completely unathletic, you will have a great time.
Emily Oaks Nature Center, Skokie
At Emily Oaks Nature Center, there are many different things to do, such as hiking paths, meditation walks, and scavenger hunts. My favorite thing is going canoeing in the water. It is a good way to cool off during the summer while having fun. Emily Oaks is a great place to participate in some fun outdoor activities.
Six Flags, Gurnee
Six Flags is the best place to visit when there is a free day in your schedule because it has something for everyone: arcades, thrill rides, water rides, and a variety of food options. If you have never been to Six Flags before, this summer is a great time to go. The best thrill rides are Raging Bull, Superman, and Goliath, but be aware of their longer wait times. As you leave the amusement park, don’t forget to take a ride on the carousel.
Melt n Dip, Niles
Melt n Dip is the best place for a delicious, chocolatey dessert. It is a nice mix between American and Middle Eastern cultures. At Melt n Dip, there are many unique dessert options, such as lava cakes, crepes, and gelato. Their desserts are amazing and will leave you wanting to come back for more.
Hopefully, boredom won’t get the best of anyone this summer after visiting these places. This summer, you should all strive to try new things and make great memories. Have a good summer, Trevs!
