This year was the 31st annual Summer Olympics. Held in Rio de Janeiro, the Olympics hosted annual games to bring together countries in the name of sport. The Olympics brought together nearly 11,000 athletes from 206 different countries. It welcomed new events like golf, rugby, and kite surfing offering new opportunities for athletes around the world. The US won an all-time high of 121 total medals, including 46 gold medals. Michael Phelps took home his 23rd gold medal after his fifth year in the Olympics, making him the most decorated Olympian of all time.

The 2016-2017 school year started off with a bang this August as students were introduced to the first of the building’s renovations. The additions included a brand new library, cafeteria, and an outdoor patio.

Suicide Squad captivated viewers with its action packed, comedic take on super villains, showing them in positions of heroism. Jared Leto takes on the role of a crazy joker in love with Harley Quinn, who became a favorite for fans of the series. The movie made sketchy, underground cool again with evil villains, funny jokes, and Cara Delevigne in her scariest role yet!

After four years, Frank Ocean ended his media hiatus in August. The new album, “Blonde” brought forth powerful messages of Black Lives Matter and life dilemmas with battling fame and sin. He produced a visual album and magazine in addition to the audio album, reinstating his position in the music industry.
