Advisery Olympics spark competition

The Advisory Olympics comes around every year and is a chance for New Trier advisories to work together to compete in a friendly competition for a month. A flag making contest, a three point shooting contest, and a three legged race are just some of the 10 games  in which advisories compete.

Adam Held, a New Trier boys advisor, said that his advisory is looking forward to the games. “We are really excited for the basketball three-point contest. We have several basketball players in our advisory.” Held also said that he thinks the tug-o-war will be his advisory’s biggest challenge. Chris Lane, a New Trier junior, said that he was most excited for dodge ball. While the games may sound physically tough, William Armiros, a New Trier junior, confirmed that it was not difficult since the games are just for fun.

The Advisory Olympics, however, is not just about playing some games. The bigger picture of the games is to bring advisories closer together. “The camaraderie is great for us. Working together for a common goal is very worthwhile,” said Held.  Lane also said that the he would recommend the Advisory Olympics to future advisories because it stresses teamwork and accountability. “It’s a lot of fun and a good break from sitting in an advisory room every morning,” said Lane. Armiros also said, “I remember that the tug-o-war game from last year was fun to do with my advisory, so I would defiantly recommend it to future adviseries.”

The 2014 Advisory Olympics has already begun. The flag competition has already taken place, though the winners of the challenge have not yet been decided. Matt Koulentes, the Advisory Olympics head, is currently out on paternity leave and could not be reached for comment.
