Sports wrap-up: Boys water polo

The Trevians finished their season with a winning percentage better than any other season in New Trier Water Polo history with a record of 25-7-1. The Trevians season included winning the Glenbrook South tournament, and finishing 2nd in sectionals. They ended their season with a tough 10-9 loss against Loyola in the Glenbrook South sectionals, who ended up finishing 2nd in state. The Trevians ended up ranked in the top 10 teams in the state and had a very successful season.

“It was a pretty good season; we didn’t get as far as we would have liked, but it was probably the best team we ever had,” junior Joey Ryan said. Besides their incredible record, another high point in the season was the 4th consecutive CSL championship. The Trevians beat Glenbrook South to accomplish this feat.

Seniors Max Krueger, Jacob Dray, Ben Weaver, Nate Urban and Simon Bernick have been on the team the last three years. In these three years, the seniors had a combined record of 42-1 and won the CSL championship three years. “By all measures, it was a pretty good season,” coach David Goodspeed said.

The Trevians also had two juniors named to the all state team: Jordan Palmer and Joey Ryan. This is an incredible feat that has not occurred for a long time. Even though the Trevians wanted to go to state, they still finished better than any other team record-wise in New Trier Boys Water Polo History.
