Student Sportlight: Jordan Thomas (JT)

Senior Jordan Thomas, or as his teammates call him, “JT,” is gearing up for his last season of high school basketball. After coming off a successful state tournament, Thomas is looking to repeat the successes for his final season at New Trier.

“I hope this season we can make another run in the state tournament and win our conference,” said Thomas. Last year, the Trevians fell short of reaching the state championship when they lost to Simeon Career Academy and their No. 2 player in the nation, Jabari Parker. Simeon would eventually win the State Championship for the second year in a row.

However, this is a new season for Thomas and his teammates, and Thomas is looking to lead them on another deep playoff run. Thomas is the lone starter returning from last year’s roster, and as such, he is a leader on the team.

Thomas’s teammates appreciate his energy and spirit. Junior Andrew Hauser explained, “We all respect his experience at the varsity level and he gets along with everyone,” Junior Sean Boyd agreed, adding, “You know JT is a great guy and a great teammate. He gets everyone involved and brings us together as a team.”

Thomas has learned a lot these past few years playing NT basketball. “My game has improved a lot since freshman year. I am a much stronger player now and I’ve have to put on ten pounds of muscle since freshman year. I have improved my jump shot, mechanics, ball handling, basketball IQ, and mid range game the most over the years,” said Thomas.

Thomas is planning on a successful season for the NT basketball team, and he hopes to continue playing in college. When asked what his future holds, he said, “My process is still unfolding, and I will have a better idea of where I’m going once the season is over with.”
