The New Trier baseball team finished their 2014 regular season 17-18, but the Trevians have their sights set on a bigger goal.
“The season has been up and down. We’ve played well at times, beating state ranked Libertyville, but have also played poorly at times,” said senior-captain Matt McCaffrey, who will be playing football and baseball at Knox College next year. “Still I feel we can absolutely make a run in the playoffs and we believe as a team we have the talent to win state.”
Seeded number two in their sectional, the Trevians have a legitimate shot at making a run in the state playoffs. They began their playoff push by beating Steinmetz 14-0 thanks to a perfect game from senior Drew Fischer. They then defeated Niles West 1-0 to claim the sectional title. The Trevians will need production from senior pitcher David Richman, senior first baseman, Grant Klenovich, and senior second baseman Drew LaMotte if they hope to compete for a shot at a state championship. The state finals are June 13 and 14 in Joliet and New Trier looks poised to make an appearance.
