New Trier’s girls varsity soccer team continued their streak May 30 in Park Ridge, trouncing Loyola 4-0 to win the Class 3A Maine South Sectional championship.
All four goals were scored in the second half. Sophomore midfielder Bina Saipi got the scoring underway three minutes into the second half, rebounding senior Maddie Mulford’s shot off of junior Jackie Welch’s throw-in. Sophomore Celia Frei, junior Maggie Armstrong, and sophomore Kelly Maday each added tallies of their own to secure a date with Barrington Tuesday at the Hersey Supersectional.
The Trevians (28-1-0) increased their winning streak to eight games with the win over the rival Ramblers (22-3-1). Their lone loss came on May 3 to Waubonsie Valley, a team they very well could face again in their run at a state championship.
