Green Team revamped

The start of a new school year means a new senior class. Since 2006, the New Trier senior student section, otherwise known as the ‘Green Team’, has been present in the stands at a variety of different sporting events. It is easy to find the Green Team at games, with many seniors clad in their sweatshirts. Managing the Green Team for the class of 2015 are captains Brent Segvich, Matt Kenyon, and David Hammes. All three captains will lead the Green Team at various sporting events throughout the year.

Getting all of the sweatshirts ordered and organized for hundreds of seniors is a daunting process, and according to Kenyon, it took a lot of time.

“Collecting all the names was not bad but getting all of the names down took a lot of time, there were over 400 orders,” said Kenyon.

With so many people ordering sweatshirts, the estimated cost came to $12,000. The names and orders were delivered to the Wilmette Bike Shop, who customized every sweatshirt. The Bike Shop has been making the sweatshirts for many years, but this year’s design is slightly different from previous ones. The Class of 2015’s Green Team sweatshirt has a large “NT” logo with a block “Green Team” just above the logo. The logo is an 8-inch print, and it’s inspired by the Trevian baseball logo. The sweatshirts feature the number 15 on the back, and a nickname unique to each student.

Now that the sweatshirts have been ordered, many New Trier athletic teams will depend on the Green Team’s support. Already, the boy’s soccer and football teams have received strong support at games this season, most notably the football game against Warren. Segvich is taking a lot of pride in attending New Trier sporting events as captain.

“I am very excited about attending New Trier sporting events. As a green team captain my job isn’t just to go to football games, but to be a New Trier sports ambassador by going to other sporting events and getting other seniors to come and support all sports,” said Segvich.

The first major sport of the season is football and the captains will be bringing along other seniors and students to support.

Kenyon said, “I’m looking forward to making an impact on the game along with Segvich, Hammes, and the entire Green Team.”
