Girls tennis puts on a show at state

Girls varsity tennis demonstrates amazing Trevian spirit at their state tournament

The Girls Varsity tennis team poses with their trophy after their runner-up finish at state on Oct. 22

Varsity girls tennis put on a show this season, winning Conference, Sectionals, and placing 2nd at State.

The state tournament consists of two tournaments. One is a singles tournament and the other is a doubles tournament. For each match you win, you score points for your team.

The team’s two singles players and two doubles teams scored a combined 29 points, which gave the team a 2nd place finish, only 3 points behind Hinsdale Central.

At the tournament multiple players received awards. Junior, Madison Liu, placed fourth in singles and First Team All State. Senior Julia Ross finished 9-16 and was Second Team All State.

In Doubles, sophomores Keri Rosenberg and Lucy Parrilli finished fifth place and First Team All State. Freshman Ariane Lesterhuis, and sophomore Coco Zabel, finished 9-16 and Second Team All State.

“The team played their hearts out at State with all of the players improving their finish from the previous year,” says head coach, Jerry Morse-Karzen.

The team showed up prepared to play their best matches despite the difficulty of drastic weather changes.

“We had to adjust for the weather because we played in 40 degree weather and in 70 degree weather, meaning we had to adjust for the wind,” says one of the captains, Madison Liu.

Overall the team had a great season with a very energetic and supportive atmosphere.

“I feel like the girls look forward to practice and see it as a chance to get a workout, improve, and connect with their teammates,” Morse-Karzen says about practices.

The team’s record for this season was 22-0 against Illinois schools, and throughout the season the team worked together to progress and reach the state finals

A memorable experience for many members on the team was their annual trip to a tournament in St. Louis, Missouri. The team was able to bond during the long bus ride and time spent in the hotel.

“We were able to find ways to make each other laugh and get to know each other better personally, while also competing together and playing some great tennis matches,” says Liu.
