Varsity wrestling placed fourth at their CSL conference tournament Jan. 6, and so far the team has been successful with a mid-season record of 17-3 in dual meets.

The team had two wrestlers reach the finals, and even had a total of eleven wrestlers place.

Tade Kemnitz, Assistant Wrestling Coach, says, “the state tournament series starts next Saturday with the regionals at Fremd.”

After that, Sectionals are the following Friday and Saturday, Feb. 10 and 11, at Barrington.

The team hopes to do their best.

“We have a couple wrestlers who could place in the Top 4 and qualify for the state meet,” says Kemnitz.

The entire team has had a successful season.

“Our duel record is phenomenal and we have multiple guys vying for state,” says Junior varsity wrestler, Dylan Jeppe.

For Jeppe’s personal season he says that it’s been a little bit of up and down, however that’s figured considering it’s his first year on the team.

“I’m very happy I joined this year and I urge other people to join next year,” says Jeppe.

Since the start of their season in November, the team has gotten very close and the captains, Eli Polacek, Wilson Wright, and Tyler Jackson, push everyone to be great.

“The varsity team has a great connection,” says Jeppe.

The team’s season ends in about a month if they make it to state, which it’s looking like they’re supposed to, on Feb. 25.

The teammates strive to create a supportive environment for one another, and roots for one another on the sidelines.

“The team is very supportive of each other. They enjoy celebrating each other’s accomplishments and growth,” says Kemnitz.
