Juniors James Kaye, Erik Li and William O’Donnell have started a new tutoring service called Snap Tutors in order to support students more effectively than other services have.

Snap Tutors aims to help students improve their grades and succeed in a variety of subjects. Kaye and his co founders started this program to offer a more efficient tutoring experience at a more affordable cost in comparison to other tutoring services in the area.

Some people are more comfortable being tutored by students in their own grade and some tutors are better at tutoring for individuals in their own grade

The idea for Snap Tutors came to Kaye after he noticed that many of his classmates were struggling in their classes, but couldn’t quickly find tutors who could give them academic support.

Kaye said that, if he had a test tomorrow, he wouldn’t be able to find a tutor that day. So, he decided that he needed to make a change, and created his program.

Also, acknowledging that students have tight knit, full schedules, Kaye orchestrated this service in order to cater those who may not always be available the same times every week.

So, with Snap Tutors, students are able to come up with a plan to make this support as efficient as possible and as individualized as they need.

“We currently have 15 tutors on hand but are always looking for more.” But, Kaye, along with his team, choose tutors for their expertise in a given subject.

So, each potential tutor undergoes an interviewing process that ensures they are suitable for the program.

Kaye wanted to create a way for students to have access to effective methods of getting the help they need. He often used tutors for support for his own classes. James said he found asking other students for assistance was helpful to him. Although, James noticed it was becoming more and more challenging to find individualswho had time for him when he needed it.

Yet, with his new system, students have access to tutors that they know they can rely on.

“Even if a specific tutor may not be able to meet on a certain day, snap tutors will provide an alternative option.” said Kaye.

Snap Tutors encourages all grade levels to be part of this program as they have tutors at all high school levels.

The company offers one-on-one tutoring sessions in a variety of subjects, including math, science, English, and even SAT support. The tutors are all high school students who have excelled in their respective subjects and are passionate about helping others succeed.

In addition to paid sessions between students in the area, Kaye explained how his team is, “planning non-prophet trips to help students in Chicago who cannot afford to pay for tutoring.”

Snap tutors will, “likely have the first trip to Chicago at the very end of this school year or in fall of 2023.”

Snap Tutors is already receiving positive feedback from students who have seen improvements in their grades and find the service easier to use than other tutoring programs.

Junior, Charles Wise explained that he needed last minute help yet did not have many options as to finding this assistance.

“It was extremely helpful to work with a student my own age who understood the class I was in,” he said

Wise also mentioned that meeting with teachers can actually be very challenging.

“Many students need help so when I would go to meet with a teacher I would find it difficult to actually get my needs met in a 40 minute free period.”

Snap Tutors is also currently embarking on developing a contractual obligation that James’ tutors will need to sign in order to be part of the program. With this, Kaye and his team can ensure that each tutor fulfills the standards that they wish to promote through this program.
